D-chiro-Inositol is a white powder. It is found throughout many living systems but commonly in legumes, beans and other plants in a monomethylated or glycosylated form. It is also found in more complex structures in micro-organisms.
NZP produces D-chiro-inositol from D-pinitol, which is isolated from a plant source.
It is understood that in the body D-chiro-inositol or a derivative (ref. 1) might act as a secondary messenger in several metabolic processes including blood sugar control. It has gained some interest in the research community for its potential influence in phosphatidyl inositol phosphate. function.
Several animal and human studies have shown that D-chiro-inositol has a positive effect on glucose metabolism (refs. 2,3).
