Description

N-Acetyl-D-mannosamine (ManNAc, N-acetylmannosamine monohydrate), manufactured in bulk (GMP) at NZP, is a ubiquitous but rare monosaccharide involved in a range of metabolic processes. It is often used as a precursor in the chemical or enzymatic synthesis of the neuraminic acids found in glycolipids and glycoproteins. In biological systems it is the precursor compound for the biosynthesis of the sialic acids especially N-acetylneuraminic acid (Neu5Ac, NANA). For this reason N-acetylmannosamine is of keen interest to scientists around the world. NZP's N-acetylmannosamine is top grade material suitable for all purposes, biological or synthetic.

N-Acetylmannosamine is becoming a favoured media component to enhance sialylation in CHO, BHK and HEK mammalian cell culture glycoprotein and mAb production.

Use of Chemical

N-Acetyl-D-mannosamine (ManNAc) is used for the synthesis of sialic (N-acetylneuraminic) acid. It is also a synthetic intermediate for a number of carbohydrate-derived families of biologically active compounds and pharmaceutical candidates.
